Low-income housing - temporary - moveable - adaptable - separate parts - loose foundations - transportable.

Studio Jantzen: Kit of Parts

Future of Prefab+Architecture.[?] Combining Prefab Promises and Architectural Principles - Architectural Forte being the form and design in relation to the user, and place - the construction, generally speaking, being secondary.

Revised Abstract:

At first our existence was based on our ability to constantly move and adapt to our ever changing surroundings. This moving habit governed our survival as a species. Today, most cultures pursue a more or less stationary life style. However, with the arrival of the sustainability revolution, our world is once again leaning towards a more flexible living environment; thus encouraging a new form of existence.

To be sustainable, to design for the changing fashions of our dynamic cities, architecture must become more adaptable, flexible and less permanent. This concept provides a driver for this sustainable revolution to produce architectural proposals that have transformable qualities that can make physical and/or experiential spatial changes over any given span of time.

With the implementation  of prefabricated systems for the flexibility in its construction and permanence, and the architectural principles for designing for the clients needs and context, the potential for prefabricated architecture -
[architecture + industry] - can ideally be [re]envisioned and better adapted to its surrounding environment in order to make a real difference to the quality of the built environment.

[REDISCOVERING THE VIRTUES OF PREFAB]

[HOW DO YOU COMBINE THE PROMISES OF BOTH PREFABRICATION AND ARCHITECTURE WITHIN THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT?]

Revised Issue:

The need for architecture to become more sustainable and thus more adaptable, has resulted in a disconnect between the quality of design seen in prefabricated architecture and architecture itself.

Position:

We as architects need to rediscover the virtues of prefab architecture and thus better adapt to the prefabricated conditions with a better understanding and integration of the client, the location of the project and its labor context in order to contribute positively to the built environment.
